My profile picture is of 4953 'Pitchford Hall' on shed at Loughborough after a day's work on Saturday 29th January 2011, taken by myself. The Channel cover picture is of 'Small Prairie' number 5541 taking water on at Parkend in June 2014.
Also featured on my channel are videos from football matches, I am a Swansea City supporter and have followed the Wales national football team since 2003, and of music gigs.

7029 ‘Clun Castle’ working 1Z48 ‘The Great Western’ at Powderham - Saturday 11/05/2024
Vintage Trains commemorated the 60th Anniversary of ‘The Great Western High Speed’ Ian Allan railtour, which took place on Saturday 9th May 1964, with a special two-day tour that on day two ran from Plymouth to Birmingham Snow Hill via Bristol Temple Meads, Bath, London Paddington and Oxford.
This video sees 7029 ‘Clun Castle’ passing Powderham on the Plymouth to Bristol leg, wearing the ‘Z48’ reporting headcode, just as she wore 60 years ago - the 1 of 1Z48 being donated by the express lamp headcode.

After waiting in Magor watering for over an hour, ‘Black 5’ number 44871 is seen here accelerating through Severn Tunnel Junction bang on time at 13:19 on her way to London Paddington via Gloucester. She had worked this ninth and final day of the GB tour from Swansea, via Barry.

‘Black 5’ number 44871 is seen here climbing through Cogan on her way to Cardiff and then onto Gloucester and London Paddington on day 9 of the GB XVI, which had originated in Swansea and taken the Vale of Glamorgan line via Barry.

Unique surviving outside-cylindered Pannier tank number 1369 hurries away from Bridgnorth platform 2 with the 13-minute late 1550 local service for Highley, formed of GWR carriages 650 & 6045, during the Preview day of the Spring Steam Gala. Both carriages have been restored to service for the first time in preservation within the last 10 years, 2015 & 2020 respectively.

Colas 37254 working the Network Rail Measurement Train, seen just after 2200 on 10/04/2024 having come off Landore TMD heading to Swansea station, before heading the 3Q34 on to Milford Haven and return during the night. I had just been to the Swansea.com Stadium to watch Swansea City beat Stoke City 3-0 and this was a nice surprise heading for the car to go home!

A few days after the centenary of the first GWR 4073 ‘Castle’ Class locomotive ‘Caerphilly Castle’ being unveiled and displayed at Paddington, we see one of the final members of the class power Vintage Trains’ 1T53 Stratford-upon-Avon to Birmingham Snow Hill 1613 service through Stratford Parkway.

7812 ‘Erlestoke Manor’ & 7828 ‘Odney Manor’ head the return ‘The Whistling Ghost’ from Minehead through Dunster along the West Somerset Railway bound for Bishops Lydeard, where 7029 ‘Clun Castle’ would then take over the train for the mainline run back to Birmingham Snow Hill. I took a photo of the approach and then switched to video mainly for the sound!

Recently painted after overhaul and running-in, 'A4' class number 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' hauls Saphos Trains' first 'Welsh Marches Express' of the season, seen here at Ponthir on the outward journey to Shrewsbury. Filmed on a compact camera, so is a bit shaky at the beginning, but I wanted to record SNG's return in Blue to the mainline for the first time in 8 years.

Cross the occupation crossing on Station road, follow the path alongside the railway towards Cwmbran, eventually there’s a foot crossing over the railway again, turn left here and walk a narrow path against a bush between the railway and neighbouring property and end up at a field which has a footpath running through, this video was taken from the end of the field nearer Cwmbran.

Why is there a diesel loco on the back?
The diesel is on the back to provide power for the generator for the kitchen and air conditioning in the three Mk2 carriages in the rake. It also helps turn the train around at Shrewsbury. It can also be a rescue loco if required. As can be seen in the video, it is idling.

Yes very much so, they regularly - nearly daily - have ballast train workings use Norton Fitzwarren triangle which brings in a stream of income.

Do you mean when tours get dragged from Newport to Cardiff? I guess it’s to save cost on another path, and means more time to service the locomotive. Newport’s area is spelt Maindee, Maindy is an area of Cardiff.
